Todd Johnson, MD

Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center

Regardless of your age or activity level, Dr. Todd Johnson, along with his colleagues and staff at Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, are dedicated to maximizing each individual’s mobility and movement through innovative technologies and advanced care. For more than 30 years, he has practiced patience and effective communication and has utilized a “double-check everything” quality control technique to provide exceptional orthopedic care.

Dr. Johnson, who practices out of the center’s Rockwall and Garland offices, is personally committed to providing thorough, conservative, nonoperative care first and foremost. As a last resort, he will capably perform surgery if needed. “I love my job because I can help almost every patient who comes to see me,” he said.

Conservative and Patient-Focused Approach to Care

Dr. Johnson practices advanced musculoskeletal healthcare tailored to each patient’s unique needs.

“A culture has been fostered here in which our comprehensive care is centered around the patient. This helps expedite the diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent recovery of each patient,” he shared. This attitude, combined with precise skills, has led to many successful outcomes. “Patients often worry that I’ll recommend surgery because I am a surgeon, but the majority of our patients can improve through an individually customized program of exercise, injections, bracing, and pain management. It’s my job to slow down and take time to help each patient understand their diagnosis and treatment options—to ease their mind and assure them their body will heal itself with time.”

If surgery is the best path for the patient’s recovery, many of today’s orthopedic surgeries are minimally invasive. This, along with using advanced pain management techniques such as regional blocks, makes recuperation from surgery much faster and rehabilitation and recovery far more pleasant. “Most ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, and joint replacement procedures can be done with arthroscopic surgery and much smaller incisions, making recovery faster,” Dr. Johnson added.

Don’t Let an Injury Sideline You

Recognized by MPIRICA as a “Surgeon of Excellence” demonstrating excellent surgical outcomes over a four-year period, Dr. Johnson was only one of three knee replacement surgeons in DFW who ranked (or performed) at or above the 90th percentile for surgeons across the country. He has also been named one of the “Best Doctors in Dallas” by D Magazine and is a four-time Living Magazine Readers’ Choice Best Orthopedic Surgeon in the Rockwall, Heath, Rowlett, Forney, Royse City, North Richardson, North Garland, Firewheel, Sachse, and Murphy areas.

Dr. Johnson, who strongly believes in educating student athletes to prevent injuries that can sideline them, has an “open door policy” with athletic trainers and sports teams in the area. “We understand the urgency to return to a high level of competition as soon as injured athletes are physically able to do so, and work together with the athletic trainer, physical therapist, and any other provider involved to accomplish this goal.”

When he’s not fixing people, Dr. Johnson and his wife of 30 years are making the most of the empty nest stage of their lives through fishing, boating, and raising Angus cattle—including a bull that recently won at the State Fair—on their farm in Edgewood. “Knowing my work can change people’s lives is very rewarding. It makes all aspects of my life that much more enjoyable.”
