Hossein Bagshahi, MD

Bagshahi Bariatric and General Surgery

Helping improve peoples’ lives, health, and longevity is Dr. Bagshahi’s passion. As an experienced, fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon, knowing he has helped his patients reap the life-changing benefits associated with weight loss is profoundly gratifying. Chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high blood cholesterol, and sleep apnea often go into remission. In addition, his patients’ ability to enjoy life without the physical and emotional constraints of excess weight is restored. With all this, it’s easy to understand why Dr. Bagshahi loves being a bariatric surgeon and weight loss specialist.

Comprehensive Services, Minimally Invasive Surgery

Providing multiple weight loss options, Dr. Hossein Bagshahi reviews the various procedures with his patients so together than can determine which one will best-achieve their weight loss goals. And for those who have undergone unsuccessful weight loss surgery elsewhere, Dr. Bagshahi specializes in revision surgery, offering another chance at success.

He and his team at Bagshahi Bariatric and General Surgery educate patients on nutrition, supplemental replacement, and fitness and help them change lifestyle and habits around health and wellness. Close follow up care is provided, as well as ongoing support. Many patients join the office Facebook page and online social community to exchange ideas, encouragement, and comradery throughout their weight loss journey.

“We’re with our patients every step of the way,” says Dr. Bagshahi, who specializes in bariatric surgery, surgery for reflux disease, and minimally invasive surgery, and provides comprehensive weight loss care. “Surgery is a tool used to achieve effective weight loss, but patients need more—they need to be coached toward lifestyle changes that include proper nutrition and developing a daily exercise habit.”

Innovative Technology, Minimally Invasive Techniques

Dr. Bagshahi completed a fellowship in bariatric surgery and minimally invasive (laparoscopic), robotic, and endoscopic surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Compared to traditional open surgery, minimally invasive surgery generally offers faster recovery with less downtime and less pain. He uses robotic-assisted surgery to optimize laparoscopic surgery for more complex work and efficiency during surgery.

Up-to-date on the latest advances, Dr. Bagshahi carefully selects the innovations he introduces into his practice. One example is the intragastric balloon, which is placed in-office and removed endoscopically after six months. “Intragastric balloons offer a solution for people who don’t want to make the leap to bariatric surgery but are interested in a temporary tool to address their excess weight by managing hunger,” explains Dr. Bagshahi.

Another example is incisionless endoluminal sleeve gastroplasty, or endoscopic sleeve surgery. Patients typically return home the same day after this surgery-free procedure.

For compassionate, expert care for bariatric surgery and weight loss, Dr. Bagshahi is a wise choice.
