OMEGA OB/GYN ASSOCIATES
David Walker, MD
Dr. David Walker loves getting feedback from his patients. “Just last week, I had a patient tell me, ‘Thank you for taking the time to listen to my problems’. I may not be able to fix every problem, but I can always listen,” he said. “Every person has a voice and deserves to be heard.” One of the things Dr. Walker loves best about his Ob- Gyn career is the variety of patients he treats and the long-term relationships he’s able to develop with them.
“In one day, I might see a woman coming in for her pregnancy care, her mother to discuss surgery, and her grandmother to discuss menopause,” he said. “My goal is to treat each one as I’d want a doctor to treat my wife or mother.”
Dr. Walker didn’t start medical school with obstetrics and gynecology in mind. That came to him about through a series of life experiences. “During my first round of final exams in medical school my daughter was born,” he said. “Getting to hold her for the first time was a life-changing experience.” Sadly, the birth of that first child was followed by the heartbreak of two miscarriages.
“By then I was doing my Ob-Gyn rotation, in the 3rd year of medical school,” Dr. Walker said. “I found I really connected with the patients and their experiences. I loved being part of some of the highest moments in their lives, but also partnering with them during their lowest.” From that combination of experiences, a compassionate and devoted Ob-Gyn was born.
Dr. Walker places an emphasis on patient education. “Nobody cares about your health as much as you do,” he said. “A big part
of my job is as educator, to help women understand how to best care for their own bodies. Whether it’s a young girl having her first period, a woman in her childbearing years, someone going through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond, I want to empower them to be their own best healthcare advocate. And that begins with giving them one person who will slow down and really listen to their concerns and healthcare preferences.”
“There’s a favorite quote that helps me guide my practice. ‘Empathy has no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgement, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of ‘You’re not alone.’ (Brené Brown) Two characteristics are essential to my practice of medicine, empathy for my patients and a consistent drive to learn and improve.” His ever-growing population of loyal patients will attest that he’s doing well on both accounts.
When not on the job, Dr. Walker loves spending time with his seven-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son building with LEGO, playing backyard games, and swimming whenever they can. He is now accepting new patients.
