Texas Knee and Hip Center

Our bodies are designed to take a lot of stress. Our joints are well-protected by muscles and ligaments, fatty tissue and skin, plus nicely lubricated pads keep bones moving freely. But over time, we begin to feel the effects of excess—moving repeatedly, pounding the pavement and, although it’s hard to admit, putting too much weight on our joints. Other times, arthritis attacks our knees and hips. The end result is limited activity and often chronic pain that results in over one million hip and knee replacements in the United States each year.

As specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of hip and knee disorders, the board-certified fellowship-trained physicians at Texas Hip and Knee Center offer joint replacement and revision joint replacement surgery for a wide variety of conditions.

Because Life is Motion

Whether you are a competitive athlete, weekend warrior, armchair quarterback, feeling the effects of an old injury, aging or arthritis Texas Hip and Knee Center can help you find a solution to your joint discomfort.  They will start with a thorough exam, answer any questions you might have, and develop a treatment plan just for you.

Over 25 years ago, Dr. Robert Schmidt founded Texas Hip and Knee Center and built it into a premier orthopedic practice. He welcomed his first partner in 1992, Dr. Ajai Cadambi, and then Drs. Theodore Crofford and Steven Weeden in 2001. They would later be joined by Drs. Jeffrey L. McGowen, Steven B. Ogden and Dan Wagner.

Each surgeon offers considerable experience in adult reconstructive surgery, arthritis surgery of the hip and knee, and arthroscopic treatment of knee disorders and injuries. When indicated, patients are prescribed medications, injections and physical therapy as opposed to surgery. When surgery is determined to be the best option, breakthrough surgical techniques and the latest surgical components offer you an opportunity to regain as much mobility as possible.

“As specialists in the replacement of the hip and knee, we are a referral center for other physicians when challenging cases are encountered,” said Dr. Dan Wagner. “A successful joint replacement is dependent upon the skilled surgeon, a motivated patient, and thorough rehabilitation.”

“We get patients up and moving the day of surgery to promote healing and flexibility. The first stages of therapy are typically done at home and then, once travel is feasible, we begin more aggressive physical therapy to improve mobility.”

As with most medical specialties, the field of reconstructive surgeries has advanced over time to include techniques, diagnostics and components that offer patients today the best possible outcomes. “It’s been very exciting to see patients who were limited in their activities regain their ability to enjoy an active lifestyle,” said Dr. Wagner.
